:Explanation of the Styles of Yoga Cathleen Teaches:
Hatha
Yoga
- The word Hatha comes
from the two Sanskrit words “ha” meaning sun and “tha” meaning moon. The
word “yoga” means to yoke or join two things together. With this in mind
Hatha Yoga implies joining together the sun (active) with the
moon (receptive) energy producing strength and balance. In this
practice, yoga practitioners experience ‘yang’ poses (standing and
balance poses that emphasize strength and power) with ‘yin’ poses (poses
that are held longer to gain a deeper opening in certain areas of the
body).
Vinyasa
Flow Yoga
- A dynamic, energetic and free-form style of yoga that links
movements with breath. Using a heat-building sequence of poses, Vinyasa
Flow is as much about the individual poses, or asanas, as it is about
the transition from asana to asana. A moving meditation.
Slow Deep
Stretch - Yin Style Yoga
-
This style of stretch/practice
is perfect for runners, bicyclists and anyone looking to increase flexibility.
No prior experience is necessary. After a brief warm-up using postures that
heat in the body, practitioners will use a series of floor postures and
stretches to focus on opening the hips, hamstrings, quadriceps and lower
back - going deeper than the muscles and into the connective tissue and
joints.
